PEGI EYERS
From 2010 - 2013 Pegi Eyers organized and curated The Art of the Turtle, an annual gala and art auction fundraising event for the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. Raising close to $20,000 overall for the Centre, she initiated the submission process, juried work from over 200 local and regional artists, designed the publicity program, created the exhibition catalogues and labels, and set up the shows with the installation team. The Art of the Turtle featured incredible support from artists, collectors, animal lovers and the general public, and offered a diversity of turtle-themed works from artists and artisans including painting, mixed-media, sculpture, carving, paper crafts, assemblage, stained glass, fabric design, metalwork, ceramics, jewellery and home decor. With love and thanks to the many artists who contributed to The Art of the Turtle!
The Turtle Times
In a year of firsts, the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre dove into the art world in the spring of 2010. Multi-talented artist and curator Pegi Eyers came up with the idea for The Art of the Turtle, a gala art auction, fundraiser and celebration of World Turtle Day. Over 200 attendees enjoyed an exciting evening of turtle-inspired art, silent and live auctions, distinguished speakers, elegant food and live music at the Peterborough Public Library. We auctioned off almost 100 pieces of stunning art, all donated by the very generous artists of Peterborough and beyond. The art ranged from textiles and jewellery to oil paintings and sculpture, all reflecting the beauty and biology of the turtle. Thanks to these wonderful artists and the many volunteers and donors, we raised almost $13,000, which will help us run our turtle hospital and outreach and conservation programs. The event would never have come to fruition with Pegi Eyers. She deserves special tribute for her creativity and tireless dedication!
