PEGI EYERS
Engaging Poetry with Art
A Discovery Workshop for Ekphrastic Writers
HOSTED BY THE EKPHRASTIC REVIEW
In November of 2025, I participated in the workshop Georgia On My Mind hosted by Lorette Luzajic, editor of The Ekphrastic Review, and had a wonderful time viewing the works of Georgia O'Keefe, re-visiting the Georgia mythos, gaining insights, creating new poetics, and meeting kindred spirits. I wrote three poems during the workshop to accompany the paintings "Slightly Open Clam Shell," "Inside Red Canna" and "Cow’s Skull with Calico Roses." I highly recommend Lorette's future workshops and events at www.ekphrastic.net-!
Open Wings Open Heart
language of shading
take your time
touch the charcoal
to my hand
open wings open heart
draws to black
center point
ruffled focus
nature unfolding
leave it bare
unadorned
nodule of ecstasy
push some more
open wide
soft as a shell
Georgia traces
tones of gray
language of shading
take your time
touch the charcoal
to my hand
open wings open heart
draws to black
center point
ruffled focus
nature unfolding
leave it bare
unadorned
nodule of ecstasy
push some more
open wide
soft as a shell
Georgia traces
tones of gray
Spikes & Whorls
red, burgundy, pink
nature's rarity
let me find you
delve in
black core
triangulated
the inner life
has jagged edges
stiff yet supple
at the same time
the yearning arises
For a different time, a different place.
gardens calling
Georgia's loves
red, burgundy, pink
nature's rarity
let me find you
delve in
black core
triangulated
the inner life
has jagged edges
stiff yet supple
at the same time
the yearning arises
For a different time, a different place.
gardens calling
Georgia's loves
Cow’s Skull with Calico Roses 1931
Space, Time, Nature, Solitude
bleached bones
in the desert
still life in the studio
the cow's demise
what do you see?
roses of course
bleached white
sending tremors
what is desiccated, lives
in floral outbursts
of discordant beauty
softly softly
Georgia peels bone fragments and petals
into the dark
bleached bones
in the desert
still life in the studio
the cow's demise
what do you see?
roses of course
bleached white
sending tremors
what is desiccated, lives
in floral outbursts
of discordant beauty
softly softly
Georgia peels bone fragments and petals
into the dark
