Anthology Contribution by Pegi Eyers
"Asherah: Her Sacred Waters"
Pegi Eyers, cut paper & ink border
I am so thrilled to have my artwork included in "Asherah: Roots of the Mother Tree," a new anthology by Girl God Books~!
My piece was inspired by the Tree Goddess Asherah as a source of the sacred waters of life. Ancient sculptures and iconography of the Levant and Egypt combine the divine feminine and sacred trees as one being, and depict beautiful chalices or jugs with libations at the temples, where the Goddess would pour out the sacred waters.

"This anthology celebrates Asherah from a multidisciplinary approach with poetry, prose, prayer, scholarly research, practical exercises and artwork. The artwork provides a stunning visual presence of Her power in all its forms. These images bring Her to life, reminding us that Asherah may have been obscured, but She could not be destroyed. She has never left our dreams and our visions.”
~ Janet Rudolph, from the introduction to Asherah: Roots of the Mother Tree
“The roots of the Mother Tree were too deep for the redactors of the biblical narrative, and her roots are still too deep for the archeologists who desire to relegate her representations to mere fertility or sex objects. That is not who she is and it is not who we are. She could not be eradicated. And neither can we.”
~ Rev. Duann Kier, “Roots Too Deep for the Redactors” featured in Asherah: Roots of the Mother Tree
"Asherah: I am the Word and in the beginning was my lullaby. My song soothed the crying babe of Creation. I am the Life-Sustaining Tree. All are welcome in my shade. All can be fed from the fruit of my branches. All can be soothed from the breeze rushing through my leaves.
I am the beginning
I am the creatrix
I am the eternal Tree of Life."
~ Hayley Arrington, excerpt from her poem "Pillar Goddesses Speak" featured in Asherah: Roots of the Mother Tree
