The Labyrinth - A Goddess Path
"The Earth That is Her Body"

My home, beside beautiful pristine Canadian forests and lakes, is on land that is sacred to the Mississauga Ojibway. My love for the forms of the Sacred Feminine found in the landscape led to the installation of a 60-foot Goddess Labyrinth honouring both Natura and Muzzu-Kummik-Quau, the Anishnaabe Earth Mother.  Like a monumental goddess in repose across the landscape, She reminds me daily of the feminine spirit of regeneration found in nature and the wild places of the earth.  Building a labyrinth on sacred ground can activate and intensify the natural energies, or ley lines, of the earth, focusing the energy and sending it back out changed and refined.  I have found that walking the labyrinth can have this effect on the seeker as well!

My own daily labyrinth practice is my meditation and connection to the living presence of the Old Ones, or earth spirits, of this place -  the waters, trees, plants, stones, breezes and elementals.   Losing track of time in the walking, recently I connected with the spirit of the Avalon Tradition, whose priestesses utilized the labyrinth as a great pattern of power.  Deeply entranced, they were able to open the portal to the Otherworld and to link with the sacred landscape of ancient Britain in service to the Goddess and her people.  My own ancestral traditions are connected to the pagan dieties and wisewomen of Celtic lands, hidden deep within the DNA and accessible through the mists of time with prayer, supplication, dream archaeology and visioning. 

By tracing or walking this special labyrinth, one may receive
Her wisdom and guidance, move to the music of the soul
and celebrate the Goddess within!

Experienced as the womb of the Great Goddess, the Divine Creatrix from which all things are born, the labyrinth walk can be a practice of self-integration as it represents the spiraling journey of life, death and rebirth.  It is an ancient, powerful tool for meditation, insight and spiritual growth, and can facilitate the journey into the Otherworldly realm of our own unconscious.  For Soul Sisters today, walking a labyrinth with the body of the Goddess integrated into the landscape can be an empowering ritual that  ties us to our foremothers and the energy of the Divine Feminine.
